Choose the experience that matches your goal
Discovery Flight vs. Los Angeles Air Tour
Short answer: Choose a discovery flight when you want a real introductory lesson and hands-on experience with an instructor. Choose an authorized air-tour operator when your primary goal is sightseeing as a passenger.

Purpose matters
A lesson and a tour are different services
A discovery flight is designed to introduce a prospective student to flying. It normally includes a briefing, aircraft orientation, supervised participation when conditions permit and a debrief with an authorized instructor.
An air tour is primarily a sightseeing experience. The customer is purchasing transportation for the purpose of viewing landmarks or scenery, and the operator must comply with the rules and authorizations that apply to that operation.

Which experience fits you?
What you may see
Los Angeles views can be part of the lesson—not its promise
Van Nuys Airport places training flights near active Los Angeles airspace. Depending on the day’s route and conditions, a participant may see parts of the San Fernando Valley or recognizable Los Angeles scenery. The instructor’s lesson plan, air traffic control, weather and safety always come first.
Do not book a discovery flight if your only goal is a specific sightseeing route. Choose an operator currently authorized to provide the air tour you want.
