Instrument Rating

Eligibility and experience
Know the standards before you budget.
FAA minimums establish eligibility for a practical test. Completion time and total cost still depend on proficiency, preparation, weather and lesson frequency.
- Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate with the appropriate airplane rating.
- Part 61 experience requirements generally include 50 hours of cross-country pilot-in-command time and 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time.
- At least 15 hours of required instrument training must be received from an authorized instrument instructor; specific cross-country and recent-preparation requirements also apply.
- Your logbook should be reviewed before training so existing experience can be identified accurately.
Training rate
$200–$249 per flight hour
Typical combined Piper Warrior II and instructor rate. Exact rate, lesson scope and any ground-instruction time are confirmed before training. Total program cost depends on your starting point, proficiency, preparation, weather and lesson frequency.

Why earn an instrument rating?
Instrument training expands your procedural skill and weather knowledge while making your everyday flying more precise. It does not eliminate weather risk; it improves how you evaluate and manage it.
Can my existing instrument time count?
Some properly logged experience may satisfy portions of the aeronautical-experience requirements. Reza should review the actual entries and endorsements before estimating remaining training.
Is ground preparation included in the hourly flight rate?
The published range is the typical combined aircraft-and-instructor flight rate. Confirm the exact rate and ground-instruction arrangement before your first training block.
